What are pictures for and why do we make them? Days and years pass inevitably, oblivious to our forgetfulness, indifferent to our presence inasmuch as we have trod lightly and allowed the air to circulate. Nature neither grieves nor rejoices while perfectly recalling each accident in time and place, every storm and error, each cruel turn as well as the gently interfering hand that fostered renewal. Looking, free of judgment, willing to take part by observation rather than take apart through resentment or indifference, is, in each passing instant, an available gift. We may at least see and accept that roses have thorns and so do our thoughts.
